Michael Nashef is back by popular demand! This time for a 5 day intensive in Lost Wax Casting. Imagine immersing yourself in 5 days dedicated to learning a new skill!

Lost wax casting is a great technique for making your own jewelry, or parts for a line. With lost wax casting, you can carve or build-up wax to cast into rings, beads, pendants, earrings, bracelets and more. The process is quiet and home studio friendly. Wax lets you be creative with your designs in a way that is different from fabrication and soldering. It’s more fluid, organic, and sculptural. Lost wax casting is a popular method for making jewelry in the industry. Casting your pieces made during the workshop is included.


Lost Wax Casting Basics teaches the following:

  • What is the lost wax casting process?
  • Carving wax models, techniques for making wax models
  • The casting process: sprue, invest, casting (vacuum assisted and centrifugal)
  • How you can set up your own casting equipment

 Class fee includes most materials. Items NOT included are:

  • Casting metal - Gold, silver, brass (you may bring your own or purchase it at Studio JSD)
  • Apron
  • Safety glasses
  • Needle files
  • Saw frame

About the Instructor, Michael Nashef

Born in war torn Lebanon and moved to the United States in 1998, Michael Nashef has earned his M.F.A in Metals/Jewelry Design from Bowling Green State University. Nashef has managed a jewelry store, worked as a CAD designer, launched his fine jewelry company Intersecting Hearts, and invented few tools that are used in the jewelry industry. He worked as the area coordinator and lecturer at Towson University in Maryland, and currently is an instructor at Western Michigan University. Nashef has an extensive record of exhibition including solo and international shows. He is published in books such as JaMs and New Bracelets. 

 

 

Visiting Artist Policies: Full refunds* will be given if cancellations are received up to 60 days prior to the workshop date. Due to prior artist travel arrangements and class material purchases, cancellations after that date can only be reimbursed if we can fill your seat. Cancellations received later than 48 hours will not receive a refund. We also will not issue a refund if you do not show to your class. 


*We can refund your original payment minus a $35 processing fee. If you want the entire amount, we can issue your refund to a Studio JSD gift card. 


Workshops and classes are for students 18 and up. Minors can register with prior approval and parental consent.
